Child Rights and Quality Education

About Us

KHEN is a local NGO and certified Child Safe Organisation based in Battambang Province, Cambodia.

We work to promote child rights, accessible, inclusive & quality education and protection of vulnerable children, so that they can develop to their full potential.

To achieve this, our staff run comprehensive education projects with children/youth and their schools and communities in the rural districts of Battambang: Samlout and Rukhak Kiri. All of our projects focus on education within rural/remote areas where KHEN believe most barriers to child education exist.

KHEN’ approach is rights-based inclusive development in partnership with target beneficiaries. KHEN focuses on those most vulnerable – the poor, the remote, those with disabilities, those from minority groups and girls/women.

THE KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA

Picture
We follow Child Friendly School and Child Protection standards, as endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) in Cambodia. These are international standards, which are widely regarded as best practice for education and development.

Our work would not be possible without the collaboration and support of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MOEYS) at National, Provincial and District level, the Social Affairs District office, the national NGO Education Partnership (NEP) network, community support, and international funders – currently  Educo (administered through ChildFund Cambodia), GETXO, Australian Aid (administered through UNICEF ), Children In Crisis Italy, FfS (Friends for School), and individual sponsors from UK and Italy, and Global Leadership Initiatives for Youth.

KHEN Reorganised in 2014

Our History

KHEN was originally focussed on HiV/Aids health education & home-base care and registered as an NGO with the Ministry of Interior as Kien-Kies Health Education Network, on 1 October 2002. Cambodia was very successful in meeting the challenge of HIV/Aids, so KHEN refocused on Child Rights (Education and Protection) for the most vulnerable children and youth – in rural and difficult to access areas of Battambang province.

KHEN reorganised in 2014 with the formal transfer of 2 inclusive education projects from Kumar Ney Kdey Sangheum (KNKS) (Another NGO). This transfer was to improve project management and project outcomes for both Battambang and Pursat Provinces. KNKS projects and staff stayed in Pursat and the Battambang based staff transferred to KHEN.

With this reorganisation, KHEN changed the meaning of its name and reregistered with the Ministry of the Interior of Cambodia. KHEN is now officially recognised as Khmer NGO for Education with the registration number of 662 (សជណ ៦៦២) dated 13th April 2015.

Equal Opportunity

As an equal opportunity NGO, KHEN mainstreams cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, disability inclusion and minority inclusion throughout its practices. KHEN aims not to discriminate in whom it employs or who can access the services KHEN provides.
