KHEN - Khmer NGO for Education. We work with 161 Schools in 5 districts (145 schools built by KHEN including 2 Community Training/Learning Centre, of total 259 classrooms; 78 pre classroom). in total of 85 school sites or communities. & 31 old schools renovvated by KHEN.
13,840 pre-school and primary school aged children; and the other 2,000+ are now continuing their studying in secondary/Highs school and university )
KHEN ensuring accessible and inclusive education in schools they worked: 49% were girls, 6.20% identified as having a disability, 0.26% identified as Islam Khmer & 1% identified as indigenous Khmer.

8 Staff (37.50% are female staff) and 8 interns (87.% female). 12.5% staff is person with disabilities. and 200 Local/village Volunteers/ youths.

79% of Cambodia's population live in rural areas. 50% of the rural population does not have a primary school in the village and standards are often poor in schools that do exist*. KHEN works to change this by improving access to quality education in rural areas.

Why KHEN Is Different

KHEN IS ONE OF THE ONLY NGOs IN BATTAMBANG PROVINCE FOCUSING ON

EDUCATION AND CHILD RIGHTS IN RURAL AND REMOTE AREAS WHERE IT IS REALLY NEEDED. THESE AREAS ARE NEGLECTED AND CURRENTLY DON'T HAVE SCHOOLS OR SCHOOLS ARE VERY BASIC AND STANDARDS ARE POOR. CITY AREAS ARE FAR MORE DEVELOPED AND ARE ALREADY SUPPORTED BY MULTIPLE ORGANISATIONS AND NGOs

EMPLOYING YOUTH AND CAPACITY BUILDING CHILD CLUB LEADERS FROM RURAL AREAS SO LEARNING, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE STAYS IN THE LOCAL AREA AT THE END OF PROJECTS - MANY NGOS EMPLOY STAFF WHO LIVE IN TOWNS / CITIES E.G. BATTAMBANG OR PHNOM PENH AND ONLY VISIT RURAL AREAS FOR WORK

PARTNERING WITH THE PROVINCIAL / DISTRICT OFFICE OF EDUCATION (P/DoE) & LOCAL COMMUNITIES WITH AN END GOAL OF TRANSFERRING SCHOOL PROJECTS TO P/DoE / COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY SO THAT EDUCATION CHANGES CONTINUE AFTER THE PROJECT FINISHES - IE THE PROJECTS ARE SUSTAINABLE

VALUE FOR DONOR MONEY AND COMMITTMENT - KHEN AIMS TO FUFILL ITS OBJECTIVES BY USING GOOD VALUE LOCAL RESOURCES AND MOBILISATION. KHEN STAFF ARE 100% COMMITTED TO KHEN's CAUSES AND WHERE APPROPRIATE, VOLUNTARY WORK IS CONDUCTED RECOGNISING THAT THE MOST IMPRORTANT THING IS SUPPORTING LOCAL CHILDREN THROUGH ONGOING PROJECT AND SCHOOL SUPPORT.
